CONTROL OBJECTS
May 14, 1999
James Seal talked me thru.
quick notes were these:

The tool bar on the left can include CONTROLS. You can click TOOLS and ADD at the top or RIGHT CLICK on an open area of the tool bar then add a new control.

Controls are Active X components. There are some Microsoft ones and there could be others on your machine. If you buy a control you can use it for development and you can deploy it with your software.

Deployed controls are runtime only and can't be used for development. You can add them to the tool bar but they won't do anything. To get rid of them again you need to click to select then right click to get a delete option.

(The TOOL menu can be re-sized to allow more stuff to show up.)

We used the MICROSOFT CALENDAR CONTROL for an example.

Once added to the tool bar we clicked the toll and dragged a box onto the screen. We get a calendar.

Right clicking in the middle of the middle of the new control box gives a menu that includes BROWSE OBJECT

Use that and you get a two part form. The top is a tree view of the items included in the control object. Expand the tree to see these items.

There's also a HELP button at the bottom that describes features of the control.

Expanding the tree allows you to click on any of the items and the bottom window will give any information it can find about the item you clicked.

Many of the controls have parameters involved. Some of those are covered in the two PL/B include units both of which have comments:
  • PLBEQU.INC
  • PLBMETH.INC
