CONCEPTS and CHARACTERISTICS
POS-2200 is a point of sale computer software system. Basically that means it's an electronic cash register... but it's a REALLY POWERFUL cash register!
A "point of sale" gets it's name from the idea that the most important data gathered in a retail store is found at the cash register... the point of the sale! By recording the activity at that point, and recording it in real-time, a manager has his or her finger directly on the pulse of the business.
All POS systems will record each item that is sold, how many were bought, how much each cost, and that the purchase was paid for. A really good POS system does much more. It records and manages a vast amount of information about your store. It keeps track of your inventory, processes your sales, calculates taxes, maintains a customer mailing list, does sales analysis, helps you purchase products, and much more.
POS 2200 is not a single program. It represents a library of programs that handle all of the facets of POS. Most POS-2200 clients buy POS-2200 have the program tailored to their own requirements. They do this because they can't find an off-the-shelf POS package that does things their way and they don't want change their way of doing business just to fit the model of the software they purchased. If you do things just like your competition, you lose your competitive advantage.
This on-line reference is intended to highlight some of the important common features of the base POS-2200 software. In real life, each client's POS-2200 is different to match their requirements.
