We find that over time we've answered the same questions about 10,000 times. That's true for most specialists in any field.

The internet world came up with a solution to that problem and called it FAQs. That stands for Fequently Asked Questions. Building a FAQ page allows us to just point people to our standard answer for many questions.

This FAQ page was started in March 1998. We're going through our e-mail files and grabbing some of the answers that we've recently given. As time goes on we'll add other items.

WARNING: This will probably get stale over time. The tendency is to write a FAQ answer then forget it's there. The computer industry is changing so fast that some of these papers can become almost comical over time. On the other hand, the outdated answers do reflect the evolution of information systems and they're useful to understand how we got where we are now.
